Imagine that every conversation you had with every person you spoke to every day always included them reminding you “Hey, don’t forget to put your pants on!” for absolutely no reason whatsoever. You’ve never forgotten to wear your pants, despite dreaming several times you were naked in front of the whole school. You’ve never been so poor and destitute you didn’t have pants. You’ve never been so mentally compromised you weren’t able to put on your pants. It’s just for some reason, everyone has the need to tell you “Hey, don’t forget to put your pants on!”. The first few times it’s amusing. The next few times, it’s annoying, the next few times, it’s bewildering, and then it’s just resolve. Sure. This many people telling you “Hey, don’t forget to put your pants on” means something – I guess I’m slipping up – the stress and all – it must show that I’m losing my mind.
Actually, everyone you talk to saw the same news report where it said it was helpful to people in similar situations to you to be reminded to wear their pants. And we all know if you saw it on The BIG TV Network Morning Show, then it has to be true, right? So they are all doing their part to support you by telling you “Hey, don’t forget to put your pants on”.
But it doesn’t help. It’s insulting and insensitive. Next time, just ask if there is anything you can do – And let me worry about my own pants.
